Energy Healing

What is energy healing?

To paraphrase the material I learned in my training, it’s a natural energy therapy that complements conventional medicine by treating mind, body and spirit. Healers act as a conduit for healing energy, often described as ‘love and light’, which relaxes the body, releases tensions and stimulates self-healing. The benefits of healing can be felt on many levels, not just the physical, and the effects can be profound.

Where does this ‘energy’ come from?

Healing energy is all around us, part of nature itself, available to everyone. Healers learn to tap into this natural energy and pass it on. Some healers and recipients see the energy as divine; others see it as pure universal energy. I experience it as either or both, depending on the day and how I’m feeling at the time.

How is this any different from the New Age mumbo-jumbo you make fun of?

There have been numerous scientific studies done on energy healing:

Review 2, 2009

It could be that much of the benefit comes from simply allowing oneself to sit quietly and relax for a little while. If you’d rather just sit quietly in your own chair in your own home on your own, by all means do it!

Some say that it’s just placebo effect, which can of itself be quite powerful. Even if it is placebo effect, it’s worthwhile knowing a consistent way to induce it.

What qualifications do you have?

I’m a Healer Member of The Healing Trust, trained from 2006 – 2008 and qualified in 2008.

What happens in an Energy Healing session?

The client either sits in a chair or lies down on a couch, removing no clothing other than shoes, coat, and glasses if desired. I start with a hands-off body scan of the seven major chakras (energy centres), to attune with the client and to get an idea of where to concentrate on. Then I give healing (hands-on or hands-off, according to client preference) to the joints of the body: lower back, neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, hips, knees, ankles, and toes. I generally do the right side first and then the left. Once I’ve done all of this, I may return to areas of especial need, time permitting. Depending on the client’s situation, a chair healing generally lasts from 15 – 35 minutes, while a couch healing may be 20 – 50 minutes.
